Our dentists at Clinique de Chirurgie Maxillo-Faciale du Grand Montréal in Montreal offer Botox® as a cosmetic and therapeutic treatment option.
What is Botox?
Botox (Botulinum Toxin), is a purified protein that is injected into a patient's facial muscles. The protein releases neurotoxins, that prevent the muscles from contracting and helps them relax. Dentists use it in order to produce its therapeutic benefits.
Botox could also be used to reduce or remove wrinkles in a patient's face. As part the cosmetic dental services we offer, our dentists can apply Botox in order to temporarily help relax a patient’s muscles to offer some aesthetic benefits.
Using Botox, our oral and maxillofacial surgeons could provide the following therapeutic treatments for our patients in Montreal:
- Treatment of Jaw Pain or TMJ Pain
Botox could be a good option for patients that clench or grind their teeth and are unable to tolerate or not willing to wear a night guard while they sleep.
Botox treatment might also be a good option for patients who have recurring jaw or TMJ pain despite wearing a nightguard.
The Botox is injected in the facial muscles that are part of clenching or grinding in order to help minimize or weaken those muscles. This could relieve the stress and strain that causes pain in the TMJ and jaw.
- Treatment of Headaches
Lots of people suffer from a range of headaches including migraines or migraine-like headaches for reasons such as their bite, clenching, or grinding.
Botox treatment could be effective in reducing or eliminating specific types of headaches.
- Prevention of Daytime Teeth Damage
Even though a nightguard might be very effective and well-tolerated for lots of patients who clench or grind their teeth, it is generally not practical to wear an appliance during the day.
Unfortunately, patients that have a tendency to clench or grind during the night will often also clench or grind during the day.
Botox treatment can assist in weakening the jaw muscles to help reduce the tendency to break teeth or dental restorations like fillings and caps.
At Clinique de Chirurgie Maxillo-Faciale du Grand Montréal our oral and maxillofacial surgeons also use Botox for the following cosmetic treatments:
- Gummy Smile & Jaw Line Reduction
Sometimes people have an overactive upper lip or a long upper jaw which could result in much of the gums being displayed in a smile. Botox may be used to help relax the muscles of the upper lip to help reduce or eliminate the display of the gums.
Botox treatment for jaw muscles could help relax them enough that over time, the jawline of a person might change in a way that gives a less square and slimmer jawline.
- Smile Symmetry Correction
Some people have a natural asymmetrical smile that they dislike.
Based on where the smile is asymmetrical, our dental team could use Botox to help even out the smile.
- Wrinkle Reduction & Prevention
Botox can be used to help reduce or eliminate wrinkles.
At Clinique de Chirurgie Maxillo-Faciale du Grand Montréal our philosophy with Botox treatment is to achieve a result that looks as natural as possible without affecting the way a person naturally smiles or appears.
